Make the most of your time in Salamanca, as it will be many days before you find yourself in a big city again. When you leave a city on foot, each step takes you further away from the rushed urban life. We seem to be moving in a direction opposite to that of the world, towards a rhythm known only to nature. On the road to Matilla de los Caños del Río, after passing under the motorway (A66) and the Tejares cemetery, silence will settle in and be the most faithful companion for days. At Peñasolana, and especially at El Encinar de la Rad, stock up on water, as you will take almost 4 hours to reach Robliza de Cojos, without finding a single café or town along the way. The route is along the Canada Real de Extremadura, a dirt road that was the route used by the ancients for cattle transhumance, along which herds were driven from the plains of Castile and León to Extremadura to spend the winter there. If you go through this section in the summer and in the middle of the day, take advantage of all the shadows available.
